Spanish Steps
137 steps connecting the Spanish Square and the Church of Holly Trinity (Trinità dei Monti) were surprisingly built by French. The idea was produced by the cardinal Mazarin who wanted to give the French Christian community a dignified access to the Church of Holy Trinity situated above the Spanish Square.
The place does have a southern air about it also for the palms planted along the steps. Below the stairs you can see a fountain in the shape of a ship - Fontala della Barcaccia. Although you are not allowed to eat or drink on the steps, taking a short rest there and breathing in a bit of the special atmosphere is a must for every tourist.
